My name is Dale Neely rider # 826. I am a single father of two great and very helpful girls. I was in a VERY serious dirt bike accident at Portland International Raceway on Thursday, August 21, 2008. While racing in the 30 and over intermediate class, I broke my fifth and sixth vertebrae in my back leaving me partially paralyzed from the chest down. I also broke several ribs and damaged my right eye, however the doctors are saying that my eye will recover with little or no damage. I had surgery on Saturday August 23, 2008 where they put screws and pins in to realign and stabilize my spine and vertebrae.
My recovery has been going well, and I will be moving to the Rehabilitation Institute of Oregon (RIO), which is operated by Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital & Medical Center in Portland, Oregon sometime this week. I will be working very hard for a full recovery that may take up to 18 months.
If you would like to make a donation, we have set up the "Dale Neely Recovery Fund" at all US Bank branches. Portland International Raceway will also have a donation box at the Thursday night motocross races, to help pay bills and medical expenses, since I will be without pay for several months, any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you would prefer to make a personal donation, or items of support which are also very welcome and appreciated. Feel free to mail to: Dale Neely, PO Box 128, North Plains OR 97133.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for all the help and support I have already received from my family, friends and the motocross community. This is one of the many reasons we all love this sport so much.
Thank you,
Dale Neely
